A beloved annual holiday tradition is back this season and back in person: Our Gingerbread Extravaganza Decorating and Holiday Coloring Contest for young and the young-at-heart, now in its 36th year!
Gingerbread artists can win exhibit their entries at the Arkansas State Capital for a chance to win prizes and bragging rights. Proceeds benefit foster children.
Here is how it works:
Between now and now and December 7 (or while supplies last), pick up a Gingerbread House Decorating Kit from the Treatment Homes office at 700 West Fourth Street, Little Rock, AR 72201, Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Or you can bake and decorate your own gingerbread house.
Each kit comes with everything you need: a pre-assembled, baked gingerbread house, ready-to-use icing with tip, assorted mini candies and instructions. All you add is your own creativity.
Pick your preferred size, small ($15), medium ($20) or large ($30), and complete a registration form to enter the Gingerbread Decorating Competition. Or email it to gbhouse@treatmenthomes.org no later than noon on December 8.
Deliver your decorated masterpiece to the Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock between 8.30 and 9.30 a.m. on Sunday, December 10.
The decorated houses entered into the competition will be on display in the afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m., along with winning entries of the Coloring Contest, sponsored by Cabot Office Machines. Central Arkansas students in grades PreK-5 have already been working on their entries, but if your child needs an extra copy, download it here and complete and submit it to Treatment Homes as directed.
The deadline for entry is December 1.
Prizes will be awarded for Grades PreK-1, Grades 2-3 and Grades 4-5.
Then join us in the Rotunda of the Arkansas State Capitol on Sunday, December 10, between 1 and 3 p.m. for the Gingerbread Decorating Competition, the Celebrity Tour of Homes and Photos with Santa. Winners of the decorated gingerbread houses will be announced between 2 and 3 p.m. in the categories Youth (Grades K-3), Youth (Grades 4-6), Youth (Grades 7-12), Adults and Teams.
Admission is free, and the public is invited.
