LITTLE ROCK — Young artists and home bakers young and young at heart are invited to compete in the 30th Annual Gingerbread Extravaganza. Submissions to the Holiday Coloring Contest and Gingerbread House Decorating Competition will be exhibited and judged Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at the Arkansas State Capitol.
Treatment Homes hosts the Gingerbread Extravaganza each year to raise funds to support the extra needs of foster children throughout the year, including presents for the annual Christmas party. In addition to the holiday coloring and gingerbread house decorating contests, the Extravaganza also includes Photos with Santa and a Celebrity Tour of Homes. The event, which will take place from 1 – 4 p.m. on Dec. 10, is free and open to the public.
The Holiday Coloring Contest is open to students in grades pre-K-5. The coloring sheets were printed by Cabot Office Machines, the contest sponsor, and delivered to Central Arkansas schools. Eligible participants may also request a coloring sheet by calling 501-372-5039 or emailing cajames@treatmenthomes.org. Entries must be mailed to Treatment Homes Inc., P.O. Box 1400, Little Rock, AR 72203, or delivered to the office (700 West 4th Street, LR 72201) by the deadline of Nov. 30. No entry fee is required and prizes will be awarded to the winners in three categories: Pre-K-1, grades 2-3, and grades 4-5. The winning entries will be displayed at the capitol during the Extravaganza.
Children and adults are also invited to participate in the Gingerbread House Decorating Competition. Gingerbread house kits are available for immediate pick-up from the Treatment Homes office at 700 W. Fourth Street in Little Rock. They are priced at $15/small, $20/medium and $30/large. The decorated houses may be entered in the Gingerbread House Decorating Competition by Dec. 6 and delivered to the Arkansas State Capitol by 9 a.m. on Dec. 10, the day of the Gingerbread Extravaganza. They will be displayed and juried in the afternoon. The winners in each category, Grades K-3, Grades 4-6, Grades 7-12, and Adults and Teams, will receive prizes. No entry fee is required.
