31st Annual Gingerbread Extravaganza now accepting submissions

Roll up your sleeves, tie on your apron and start decorating! Coloring and decorating artisans ages 4 and up are invited to compete in the 31st Annual Gingerbread Extravaganza hosted by Treatment Homes. Select works will be exhibited in the Rotunda of the Arkansas State Capitol Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, from 1 to 4 pm.

Rounding out the afternoon fun will be the announcement of the winners, a celebrity tour of homes and photos with Santa. The event is free and open to the public.

Between now and Dec. 5, you may pick up a gingerbread house kit from the Treatment Homes office at 700 West 4th Street, LR 72201 during regular business hours. They are priced $15 (small), $20 (medium) or $30 (large), or—new this year—a train ($20) and a chocolate gingerbread house ($30). Why not get all five and create a village?

Decorate them in your own kitchen and enter them in the Gingerbread House Decorating Competition by Dec. 5 with with this form. No fee is required. Then deliver them to the State Capitol between 8 and 9 a.m. on Dec. 9, the day of the Gingerbread Extravaganza. They will be exhibited and juried in the afternoon, with winners announced between 3.30 and 4 pm. There will be prizes for winners in the categories Youth, Grades K-3, Grades 4–6, Grades 7-12, Adults, and Teams.

Meanwhile, Central Arkansas students in grades PreK-5 have been working on their coloring sheets to enter the Holiday Coloring Contest, sponsored by Cabot Office Machines. The finished sheets may be returned to Treatment Homes by Nov. 30 for a chance to win prizes in three categories: Pre-K-1, grades 2-3, and grades 4-5. The winning entries will also be on display at the Gingerbread Extravaganza.

Thank you for participating. Treatment Homes hosts the Gingerbread Extravaganza each year to raise funds to support the extra needs of foster children throughout the year, including presents for the annual Christmas party.
