We can all do something. If it takes a village to raise a child – and it does – then who will step forward to assume leadership and the primary responsibility for a child who has been victimized, through no fault of his/her own? Will you?
Become a Therapeutic Foster Parent
Many children come from family environments like those described above and are troubled – with emotional or behavioral problems. They may have lived with several foster families or required psychiatric hospitalization. They desperately need the healing power of love, and the chance to experience family life with caring foster parents who are trained to deal with their special problems.
Treatment Homes, Inc. was founded in 1983 on exactly this belief. And it works! A non-profit organization, we’ve seen what the healing power of open hearts and open homes can mean in the lives of troubled children.
Therapeutic Respite
Some of us can become foster parents, and some cannot. But many of us can provide ‘respite care’ to full-time foster parents – giving them a ‘break’ for a night out, or a weekend off. And this kind of support – the feeling of ‘shared community’ – surrounding the foster families can make all the difference.
