2024 Gingerbread Extravaganza Makes It Feel Like Christmas

Our beloved annual holiday tradition, the Gingerbread Extravaganza Decorating and Holiday Coloring Contest, is back, now in its 37th year.  

Amateur cake decorators, young and young-at-heart, may compete in the Gingerbread House Decorating Competition, and elementary school artists are invited to enter the Holiday Coloring Contest.  

Proceeds will provide Christmas gifts for Arkansas foster children. 

Here is how it works:  

Gingerbread House Decorating Competition 

  1. Between now and now and December 5 (or while supplies last), pick up a Gingerbread House Kit from the Treatment Homes office at 700 West Fourth Street, Little Rock, AR 72201, Monday through Friday during regular business hours.
    • Choose from Small ($15), Medium ($20) or Mansion ($40). Each kit comes with everything you need: a pre-assembled, baked gingerbread house, ready-to-use icing with tip, assorted mini candies and instructions. All you add is your own creativity.   
    • Or you can bake and decorate your own gingerbread house. 
  2. Enter the the competition by calling 501-372-5039 or emailing this completed registration form to gbhouse@treatmenthomes.org no later than December 5.  
  3. Deliver your decorated masterpiece to the Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock between 8.30 and 9.30 a.m. on Sunday, December 8.   
  4. Return in the afternoon and vote for your favorites between 1 and 2 p.m. Winners will be announced between 2 and 3 pm. 

Prizes will be awarded in the categories  

  • Youth—Grades K-3 
  • Youth —Grades 4-6 
  • Youth—Grades 7-12 
  • Adults 
  • Teams.  

Holiday Coloring Contest 

Elementary school students in grades PreK-5 may participate in the Holiday Coloring Contest by coloring this gingerbread house with a markers, crayons or craft paint. Cabot Office Machines is sponsoring the distribution of coloring sheets to Central Arkansas schools, but if your child needs an extra copy, download and print it here.  

Complete and submit it to Treatment Homes as directed no later than December 1.  

Prizes will be awarded in the categories 

  • PreK—1st Grade 
  • Grades 2-3 
  • Grades 4-5 

Winning entries will be on display at the Arkansas State Capitol Rotunda on December 8, along with the submissions of the Gingerbread House Decorating Competition, the Celebrity Tour of Homes and Photos with Santa.  

Winners of the Gingerbread House Decorating Contest and Holiday Coloring Contest are eligible to receive gift cards ranging from $10-$100. 

Admission is free, and the public is invited.
