Community Rallies to Provide Gifts for Foster Children and Families

We may in the midst of March Madness, but it feels more like Christmas. The foster children in our care and therapeutic foster families received wonderful riches this month.

Let us make a list.

The giving started with our good friend and longtime supporter Barbara Miles of Little Rock who spearheaded a campaign to create more than 90 exquisite toiletry bags. She corralled her extensive Facebook community to contribute shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, bar soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, tissues, combs, chapsticks and loofah sponges–enough of each to fill every bag. And these were not your dollar items from a mass retailer, but thoughtfully chosen specialty products.

The bags will be given to the therapeutic foster families that accept foster children on an emergency basis for respite care and the foster children accepted in our therapeutic foster care program.

And that wasn’t all.

All foster children will also receive a backpack with a book, blanket and a stuffed bear donated by the City Star #402 of the Order of Eastern Star in Little Rock. This organization donates to our Books, Bears and Blanket Campaign each year at Christmas.

Last, but definitely not least, each foster child will choose his or her very own handmade quilt donated by the Arkansas Quilters Guild!

We are deeply grateful.

Special thanks to Barbara Miles and her Facebook Friends; Lisa Burly with the Order of Eastern Star; and Lois Hall and Nola Ballinger with the Arkansas Quilters Guild.
